Kick Off the EM in Style: Vienna’s Best Public Viewing Spots

Finally, it’s time to cheer and support our favorite team again! On June 14th, the wait is over: the UEFA European Championship 2024 is here, and fans are eagerly anticipating the first match (Germany vs. Scotland). After a grueling three years, it’s finally time to wave our flags, wear our jerseys, and prepare for a football extravaganza.

But the Euros aren’t just a major sporting event; they’re also a social highlight that brings people together – whether it’s relaxing on the couch at home, enjoying a barbecue in the backyard, or watching the game with hundreds of fans at a public viewing. For many, it’s the absolute highlight of the year – and Vienna is no exception.

Rathausplatz

Rathausplatz is undoubtedly the premier destination for public viewing in Vienna. During the Euros, the square in front of the magnificent Vienna City Hall is transformed into a vast fan zone. Featuring giant screens, ample seating, and a diverse selection of food and beverages, Rathausplatz has everything a football enthusiast could desire.

Its central location and stunning setting make it a must-visit for any fan. To ensure fans are well taken care of both in terms of sports and food, over twenty vendors from this year’s film festival will open their stands early and offer a variety of culinary delights on all match days.

Prater

The Vienna Prater is famous not only for its Ferris wheel and amusement parks but also for its excellent public viewing opportunities.

Fanzone

The Fanzone in the Prater is one of the largest public locations in Vienna to experience the Euros live. Covering an area of 3800 square meters, it features large LED screens and partially shaded seating. Fans can enjoy local culinary classics and plenty of beer.

Der Garten

Also located in the Prater, Der Garten will set up a screen for the Euros. With nachos, burgers, and cool drinks, it’s the perfect spot for cozy football evenings.

Strandbar Hermann

For those who prefer a relaxed atmosphere, Strandbar Herrmann is the perfect spot. Located directly on the Danube Canal, this venue offers a cozy beach vibe with deck chairs, palm trees, and cool drinks. The games are shown on large screens, allowing fans to experience the excitement of the Euros in a laid-back setting.

Stiegl-Ambulanz

During the Euro 2024, the Stiegl-Ambulanz will once again become a hotspot for football fans. In the cozy atmosphere of its large beer garden, the games can be watched on two screens. Austrian specialties, traditional classics, and delicious treats are, of course, also available.

Gleisgarten

In Vienna’s first food hall, Gleisgarten, football enthusiasts can gather from June 14th to July 14th. With large screens and a setting under palm trees, it’s a perfect place for a social get-together.

Chelsea

The longstanding venue on the Gürtel has always been dedicated to broadcasting football, and naturally, it will show all the Euro matches. All 51 games will be broadcasted at Chelsea.

Hauptbahnhof

For the Euro 2024, the ÖBB is organizing a free public viewing at Vienna’s main train station for up to 500 fans. All matches will be broadcast live on a 37 m² LED wall. The fan zone offers a diverse culinary selection, from Asian dishes to traditional Leberkäse sandwiches, ensuring visitors are well catered for.

Salettl am Campus

Under the motto “Vienna’s most beautiful football pitch,” Salettl am Campus also invites you to its public viewing. Football fans can watch the games on twelve monitors while sipping cocktails.

Hawidere

In the air-conditioned interior of Hawidere, all matches will be shown on a big screen and two flat screens. Additionally, the venue has brewed its own beer for the Euros. The beer sommeliers at “Hawidere” have teamed up with the “100 Blumen Brewery” in the old piano factory in Atzgersdorf to create a special football beer.

Graz

If you can’t find anything suitable in Vienna or if you are in Graz, Imbiss Hauser can put a smile on your face: Perhaps the coziest snack bar with a love of soccer awaits you in the middle of Lendplatz.

Each location provides a unique setting, delicious food, and plenty of drinks to enhance your viewing experience.

So, gather your friends, don your favorite team’s jersey, and head to one of these fantastic spots to enjoy the excitement of the Euros.
