In Vienna, there are plenty of delicious options for all people who want to completely avoid animal products and ingredients when eating out. Because we think this is really good, we have collected all our articles and recommendations on vegan food in Vienna for you. Enjoy the taste!

Vegan breakfast and vegan brunch

If you want to start the day vegan in Vienna, you are spoiled for choice: hip restaurants such as The LaLa in the 7th district provide you with healthy breakfast bowls, sandwiches, salads or tempting desserts made entirely without animal ingredients. We also highly recommend Cafe Harvest in the 2nd district or the Superfood Deli with several branches in Vienna.

Vegan ‒ it’s not just healthy

If you’re looking for something a little quicker but still vegan and tasty, then you should definitely try our tips for vegan fast food in Vienna.

We would like to introduce you to two highlights for burger fans: Flip n Dip “im Achten” serves up first-class vegan dishes such as the Crispy Chik’n Burger or Pulled BBQ Sandwich. The Swing Kitchen, which has several branches in the city, is a local classic that always tastes good. It also serves one of the best vegan burgers in Vienna!

Pizza or ice cream? Preferably both!

You shouldn’t miss out on the vegan creations at Pizzeria Pizzis and Cream either. Here you can not only get delicious pizza, but also great coffee and vegan ice cream. Speaking of vegan ice cream: the various Veganista ice cream parlors throughout the city also serve it up.

Vegan snacking

Of course, you don’t have to do without vegan sweets in Vienna. Fortunately, there are now numerous vegan patisseries in Vienna that provide you with high-quality desserts made entirely without animal ingredients.

Our favorite is Café Ausnahmsweise, where you can enjoy excellent cakes, tarts, muffins, tartelettes and cookies made entirely from plant-based ingredients. There are even vegan baking courses here from time to time.

24/7 supermarket

A nice advice that should not be missed here is the Tolstoy in the 4th district. Particularly practical: the vegan restaurant also has a vegan supermarket that is open 24/7. In the restaurant itself, you can treat yourself to delicacies such as bowls, pinsa or desserts – all plant-based, of course!

Feed me!

Whether for breakfast, a quick snack or a cozy dinner: There are plenty of delicious restaurants in Vienna that serve excellent vegan cuisine. Here’s just a small selection:

The Lala | Neubaugasse 1, 1070 & Neustiftgasse 23, 1070

Vegan cuisine meets hip, vegan lifestyle. The Lala in the 7th district is owned by the two sisters Cecilia Havmöller and Susanna Paller, whose Veganista ice cream stores are well known to all vegans in Vienna. In both branches, they serve colorful hipster cuisine in the form of healthy dishes. Breakfast, savory and sweet bowls, salads, smoothies, shakes, juices, desserts and more are not only purely plant-based, but also sugar- and lactose-free. Everything is available to eat in or take away in plastic-free packaging.

Tisch Restaurant | Schlösselgasse 8, 1080 Wien

The Restaurant Tisch in the 8th district is also a real thing for anyone who prefers to eat completely plant-based. The menu is impressive and ranges from breakfast (at weekends) to lunch and dinner. On the menu you will find, for example, beet tartare, Brettljause, spaghetti carbonara with homemade bacon, egg yolk and parmesan or vegetable bowls.

Dessert is of course also provided for – in the form of cake, raspberry chocolate mousse lasagne or homemade candy bars. Many dishes can also be ordered gluten-free. The non-edible highlight is the open kitchen, where you can watch the kitchen team at work. The ambience and, in particular, the colorful plant wall tattoo also fit in with the restaurant’s meat-free credo.

VeVi | Stollgasse 5, 1070 Wien

VeVi is a vegan Vietnamese restaurant. This doesn’t come from just anywhere: Veganism has played a major role in Vietnam for centuries, especially in the lifestyle of monks. You can try out what they might serve in their temples in the 7th district. From soups and salads to the well-known and popular summer rolls to phò and rice dishes, you’ll find plenty on the menu to make your mouth water.

Smoothies are also available here as a vitamin-rich snack between meals. There are also weekly changing lunch menus. All other dishes are also available to take away, for an additional charge depending on the size of the packaging. To round off your visit, why not try some Vietnamese coffee!

Figlmüller | Bäckerstraße 6, 1010 Wien

Want a Wiener schnitzel? The Figlmüller restaurants are known far beyond the city limits for their delicious Viennese cuisine. So we were all the more pleasantly surprised when we came across the Planted Wiener Schnitzel on the menu at Figlmüller in Bäckerstraße. The vegan alternative to the classic schnitzel is made from pea protein and served with a green leaf salad. However, because meaty schnitzel is also available here, Figlmüller in Bäckerstraße is perfect for anyone who likes meat, but also for those who love purely plant-based dishes.

Velani | Schönbrunner Straße 235, 1120 Wien

Classic Austrian home cooking is served here. The only small but subtle difference is that Velani does not use any animal ingredients, but a wide variety of substitute products. The team conjures up delicacies such as liver dumpling soup, pumpkin goulash, roast onion or Kaiserschmarrn with roasted plums and Frittatensuppe. The seitan schnitzel with potato salad or chips is of course also on the menu as a plant-based option. It is homemade and contains no preservatives or artificial flavor enhancers.
